Dried-Up Fig Tree

Mark 11:12-14, 20-21

12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry.

13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs.

14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

20 In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots.

21 Peter remembered and said to Jesus, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!”

Daily Devotional

Jesus walks around in search of a fruit bearing fig tree. Often times he finds us out of season and without fruit. Without fruit and out of season? What does that mean, I have asked myself. What did Jesus mean when He said he was hungry but found the fig tree without fruit because it was out of season???

A true Christian and follower of Christ must always be in season and always full of the Lord's fertilizing word. There are no off-seasons in the life and journey of a Christian. We are to always feed our spirit with His word; during good times, bad times, challenges, and achievements. We are to always be in season and producing fruit in the spirit so that when Christ comes around He will find us fertile with ripened fruit. Christ longs to find us bearing fruit. Fruit of forgiveness, mercy, compassion, love, deeds, goodness, wisdom, humility, and service.

Don't let your tree dry up because it lacks the living water of Christ. Plant yourself along side His streams of living waters so that you are deeply rooted and fertile year-round. Don't wither away in the absence of Christ. Don't let the poisons of this World rot your fruit or dry you up. Don't be caught fruitless when Christ comes around. Be prepared in and out of season and your fruit will be pleasing to the Lord

Have a God-Filled Day!
